One cannot empty the basket without dumping confetti all about. After one year of light usage, just sufficient to mess up my office twice a month, the shredder completely quit with no advance warning. No squeaking, grinding or groaning. I checked the company's website for troubleshooting advice, and it suggested that I make certain the machine is plugged in. Thankfully Fellowes did not try to overwhelm me with technical jargon! I purchased this shredder after I had purchased a different brand that broke within a month....both had the same specifications and promised the same results. This fellowes shredder has proven to be a much better purchase! It may not be the most quiet or fastest shredder on the market in this price range, but it does shred quantities as advertised, so far without fail and I have had no paper jams so far. ....very happy with my purchase!

We had one of these for several years; it finally failed after chewing on a particularly large bunch of adhesive labels. My wife was very happy that the same model was still for sale, so we just bought another one. It's very compact, inexpensive, and works great for our personal use (shredding old credit card statements etc.).
